On 22 July 2025, the Department of Software Engineering, in association with the Green University Student Mentorship Program (GUSMP), hosted an interactive session titled "The Chairperson Meets with First Semester Students – Before Midterm Exam (Summer 2025)". The event was held in Room B-114 and began at 1:30 PM, aiming to inspire and prepare the students of Batch 250 for their very first midterm examination at the university.
The session commenced with an encouraging welcome speech by Fahim, a senior mentor from GUSMP, who shared his personal academic journey and offered insightful tips on overcoming exam-related stress. His words set a positive and motivating tone for the rest of the program.
Next, Mr. Abrar Hasan, Lecturer and Program Coordinator of the Department, addressed the students. He provided valuable advice on effective study strategies, time management, and how to stay focused during the exam period. His speech was aimed at boosting student confidence and instilling a growth mindset.
Following him, Mr. Kazi Hasnain Emad, Lecturer and Mentor Moderator, emphasized the importance of group study, peer support, goal setting, and consistent self-assessment. He encouraged students to foster collaborative learning environments and to aim beyond academic excellence by also developing soft skills and ethical values.
The session’s keynote address was delivered by Dr. Mostafijur Rahman, Honorable Chairperson of the Department of Software Engineering. In his speech, he discussed the university’s exam rules and regulations, the significance of academic discipline, and the long-term value of building strong foundational knowledge. He also advised students to maintain a healthy study-life balance, stay curious, and seek mentorship when needed.
The session concluded with an open Q&A segment, where students interacted directly with faculty members and mentors. This interactive portion allowed for personalized guidance, clarification of exam procedures, and helpful study tips tailored to the students’ concerns.
The event served as a successful initiative to bridge communication between faculty and first-semester students while promoting a supportive academic culture. It reflected the department’s ongoing commitment to student development and well-being.
